Submit a Complaint or Commendation

Who May File a Complaint?

Anyone is entitled to file a complaint pertaining to services provided involving Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department employees. A complaint may be made by the person involved, by a friend, family member, or other third party who has knowledge of the incident. A complaint may be made anonymously.

How to File a Complaint:

A complaint may be made with the Office of Inspector General:

A complaint may be made with the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department

Information Helpful to the Investigation:

  • Date, time, location and specifics of the incident
  • Employee’s name and badge number
  • The names, addresses and phone numbers of any witnesses

When a complaint is received by the OIG, it is reviewed and forwarded to the Internal Affairs Bureau. The OIG monitors and reviews complaints received by this office. Once the investigation is completed, and reviewed by the employee’s chain of command for appropriate findings and actions, you will be advised in writing as to the outcome.

How to Commend an Employee:

To make the best process improvement recommendations to the Board of Supervisors and public it is important to review areas for improvement as well as areas of success, including commendations. A commendation may be made with the Office of Inspector General:
