Monitoring Process

Inquire about the availability of documents in alternate formats.

In monitoring Departmental policies, practices and regulations, the Inspector General evaluates levels of compliance, as well as competency to industry standards. Isolated conduct as well as widespread patterns or practices will be evaluated based on whether and to what extent they promote or hinder:

  • Accountability
  • Protection of Constitutional rights, privileges, or immunities
  • Receipt, investigation, and judicious resolution of citizen complaints
  • Risk reduction systems and strategies
  • Promotion of best practices in view of industry standards and internal assessments
  • Adherence to technical assistance letters, judicial decrees, or executive directives
  • Management and supervisory practices which support professional standards
  • Objective, measurable performance indicators

An ongoing assessment of priorities will occur based on whether isolated as opposed to systemic concerns are raised. Open, ongoing concerns related to stewardship, accountability and effectiveness are of paramount importance. Always, the question is what it will take to define, understand and address a given concern. The Inspector General may solicit input from the community and the Department in order to determine the corresponding scope of inquiry as well as desired outcomes. The common threads are accountability, issue spotting, clear direction based on need, supportable findings, and when called for, corrective follow-through.
